In the late 1980s, I embarked on a new chapter in my career at the Dutch Fashion Institute (NMI). Here, I was given the unique opportunity to visually shape atmosphere and color forecasts. My work quickly gained attention, leading me to transition into self-employment. As a freelancer, I expanded my activities to include multiple trend agencies and magazines, including several years of collaboration with VIEW Magazine.

A significant turning point in my career was a nomination by ADCN for a series of styling/illustrations of a men’s fashion collection inspired by 17th-century still lifes, some of which were published in L’Uomo Vogue. This recognition accelerated my career and opened doors to new clients and sectors. In addition to assignments for trend agencies and fashion magazines, I was also commissioned to visually translate abstract and complex concepts for industries such as management, healthcare journals, and newspapers.

I found the creative process of translating content into visuals to be an inspiring challenge. In my early work, I relied entirely on manual, collage-like techniques. However, the introduction of Photoshop offered new possibilities for incorporating transparency and layering—elements that play a central role in both the visual and conceptual aspects of my work. These digital tools also allowed me to combine photography with traditional drawing and painting techniques, enabling me to merge these disciplines into a single, cohesive image.

This layered approach creates space for serendipity, leading to surprising twists in the work. It invites the viewer to linger and continuously discover new details and dimensions.
