In the late 1980s, I embarked on a new chapter in my career at the Dutch Fashion Institute (Nederlands Mode Instituut, NMI). Here, I had the unique opportunity to give visual form to atmosphere and color forecasts. My work quickly gained attention, prompting my transition to freelancing. As an independent entrepreneur, I expanded my activities to include multiple trend agencies and publications, including many years of collaboration with VIEW Magazine.

A significant turning point in my career was a nomination at the ADCN (Art Directors Club Netherlands) for a series of styling and illustrations for a menswear collection inspired by 17th-century still lifes, some of which were featured in L’Uomo Vogue. This recognition accelerated my career, opening doors to new clients and industries. Beyond projects for trend agencies and fashion magazines, I was also invited to visually translate abstract and complex narratives for sectors such as management, healthcare journals, and newspapers.

The creative challenge of translating content into imagery was deeply inspiring to me. In my early work, I relied entirely on manual, collage-like techniques. However, the introduction of Photoshop unlocked new possibilities for integrating transparency and layering—elements that play a central role in my work, both visually and conceptually. These digital tools also enabled me to combine photography with traditional drawing and painting techniques, merging these disciplines into a cohesive image.

This layered approach allows for serendipity, leading to unexpected and exciting turns in the work. It invites viewers to linger and discover new details and dimensions with each glance.
